Multiple site visits to GVI’s Auckland facilities informed a design that balanced innovation with practicality, ensuring the new space would enhance workflows and support a smooth transition.

Smart Solutions to Complex Challenges
The build involved retrofitting an existing warehouse with three chillers, a freezer, and a temperature-controlled loading zone—all on a post-tension slab. This presented early design constraints, particularly around access and layout. Apollo’s team went the extra mile, using forklift model data and live demonstrations to test and refine the configuration, ensuring optimal efficiency.

Navigating strict MPI food safety requirements added complexity but also provided valuable insights for future projects.

Working Safely in a Live Environment
With GVI’s operations continuing onsite, Apollo implemented a full-height temporary wall to separate construction from active areas. This ensured safety and minimal disruption, showcasing our expertise in live environment builds.

Sustainability at the Forefront
Apollo integrated sustainable practices throughout the project:

• CO₂ Refrigeration: A natural refrigerant system offering energy-efficient, cost-effective cooling.
• Soft Plastics Recycling: Partnering with saveBOARD, Apollo recycled site plastics into low-carbon building materials, supporting a circular economy.
