Big Wins at the Commercial Project Awards
Congratulations to the Apollo teams who took home three Gold Awards and two Silver Awards at the 2021 Commercial Project Awards!
He Puna Taimoana took home a Gold in the leisure category. The New Brighton Hot Pools have been hugely popular since opening a year ago, regularly selling out sessions far in advance. The project includes five hot pools, a cold plunge pool, sauna and steam rooms, changing & toilet facilities, and a café area. The location provided a number of challenges for the Apollo team – strong easterly winds, sand, and nesting seagulls, to name a few!
SwimTastic Swim School was also awarded Gold in the leisure category! This project includes two 25-metre Myrtha Pools imported from Italy, along with changing rooms, offices, staff amenities, and plant rooms. The facility includes a highly efficient HVAC system, which significantly reduces carbon emissions. A retention tank collects rainwater to top up the balance tank. The biggest challenge for our team was discovering asbestos in the ground, despite years of testing suggesting the site was clean. We worked closely with Council to decontaminate the site.
Both of these Leisure projects are wonderful assets to their communities and Apollo is proud to have delivered them.
Apollo had three projects in the Industrial category, Sorted Logistics, Talley’s Coldstore, and Golden Bay Fruit’s Packhouse. Sorted Logistics took home a Gold Award! After delivering Stages 1 – 3 for Sorted Logistics, this fourth stage involved constructing an office and warehouse. The sheer size and scale of the project are impressive. One of the biggest challenges of the site was that a portion of it sits under high-voltage cables, which required an ongoing management plan for the client throughout the projects.
Golden Bay Fruit’s Apple Packhouse was awarded Silver. This state-of-the-art facility in Moteuka has a total floor area of 20,000m2 which likely makes the largest packhouse in New Zealand! The facility is home to an automated packhouse, drive-through canopies, and offices, and space for 8 coolstores.
Talley’s Coldstore in Ashburton was also awarded silver. The plant is one of the largest vegetable processing facilities in the country. As it has grown, as has the need for frozen storage. This new build includes a lights-out Automatic Storage Racking System and is one of the tallest cold stores in New Zealand.
We are so proud of these projects. Apollo is grateful to have worked alongside incredible clients and partners to create these facilities. Cheers to all involved!
