Enatel Christchurch
Appointed through a competitive design and build tender, Apollo was thrilled to once again partner with Christchurch International Airport Ltd (CIAL) on this commercial build project, continuing our long-standing involvement with the airport precinct.
The new 8,000m² facility is a purpose-built, controlled environment for Enatel – the global leader in chargers for industrial electric vehicles. Enatel’s priority was to consolidate its Christchurch operations, bringing personnel and manufacturing under one roof, the company now a major tenant within CIAL’s commercial precinct.
From the outset, a clear brief and strong collaboration between Apollo, CIAL, and Enatel laid the foundation for success. Our team’s solid understanding of the airport’s design guidelines and commitment to Enatel’s objectives helped us meet the complex requirements of this multi-functional building.
Key features include:
- Fire-rated precast test rooms for safe battery testing
- Anti-static vinyl flooring
- Post-tensioned slabs
- Custom electrical infrastructure to support the testing and manufacturing of world-class charging systems
Environmental considerations were also central to the design. A large stormwater storage system was installed to protect underground aquifers, with geotechnical solutions including rainwater holding tanks, debris and oil capture sumps, and controlled water release systems.
To support Enatel’s consolidated workforce, the building includes purpose-built office spaces, amenities, and acoustically treated engineering areas. An operationally efficient yard facilitates inwards and outwards goods, and the facility is equipped with EV chargers and solar-ready infrastructure.
The new premises also house Enatel’s head office, a controlled environment for forklift battery charger production, and a distribution warehouse.
Despite a tight programme and challenges with resourcing and procurement, Apollo delivered the project on time and on budget.
The success of this build is a testament to the strong relationships between Apollo, our subcontractors, CIAL, and Enatel. Our subcontractor network went above and beyond to keep the project on track, and the collaborative spirit across all parties made for a smooth and rewarding process.
