Project Details

When Independent Fisheries needed a larger facility to support their growing operations, Apollo Projects was the natural choice. Having built their previous factory in 2007, Apollo’s proven track record and expertise in cold and dry storage made them a trusted partner once again.

Specialising in a wide range of fish and processed seafood products, Independent Fisheries required a modern, high-capacity facility. Beginning in May 2018, Apollo worked closely with the client to design and construct a new multifaceted development. Before construction began, we also collaborated with archaeologists as the site—previously a hospital—was listed as historic.

The project involved three distinct buildings: a freezer and dry store, an office, and an environmental loading area. Seamless connectivity between these spaces was a key design priority. A mix of materials including precast concrete walls, blockwork, iron, and Kingspan cladding was used to maximise efficiency and durability.

Key features include a load-out canopy for product distribution, apron spaces for forklift access, a plant room, and modern office facilities with kitchen, washroom, and changing areas for staff.

The new facility not only meets the company’s expanding needs but was also delivered ahead of schedule and under budget—making the handover all the more rewarding.
