Happy 5 Year Anniversary Jourdie!
This week, we’re stoked to celebrate five years of having our resident HSE guru Jourdan (Jourdie) on the Apollo team! We sat down for a chat with Jourdie to get a few insights into the past five years and what motivates her in her role.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My career in construction began here in Canterbury over a decade ago, where I was fortunate to work alongside some incredible people on major projects and areas of the earthquake response. That experience shaped a lot of my thinking early on. Over time, my path has evolved across civil, infrastructure, residential, and commercial environments, expanding beyond health and safety to also include environmental and critical risk management. I enjoy working across complex project environments and supporting our teams to deliver better outcomes - keeping people, place, and process front of mind.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Apollo?
The people, without question. Apollo has a very capable and down-to-earth team. There’s a genuine willingness to collaborate, problem-solve, and back each other throughout each project.
I also value our approach and commitment in supporting stakeholders and community. We’re able to contribute across health and safety, and environmental management in a way that’s practical and meaningful for people long term - not just the ‘here and now’. Being part of a company that cares about doing good work, with good people, is pretty darn cool.
What was the first project you worked on at Apollo?
I completed a national tiki-tour, across all sites - Chritschurch, Blenheim, Wellington (including the Chathams), Martinborough, Hamilton, Auckland, Stratford, Hawera and over to Hawke’s Bay. This was potentially the longest ‘induction’ in Apollo at the time haha. I have fond memories of my first visit to each project!
What has kept you at Apollo for the past five years?
The people, growth, and the opportunity to keep learning. We have a lot of fun across the country; and are privileged to work in unique project environments - I see that continuing to evolve.
What’s your proudest moment/achievement over the past five years?
I don’t naturally see success in HSE as an individual achievement. The best outcomes are always collective - many people contribute to this along the way. What I am most proud of is being able to support and facilitate success across the business.
Key learning about yourself professionally over the last five years?
Keep learning, keep it relevant, keep it genuine. Over time, my perspective that good practice is not just about process or compliance, it’s about understanding people, environment, and context (well enough to support better decisions) has only strengthened. There is always more to learn - and that’s a good thing!
