Southpark and Sorted Logistics engaged Apollo Projects for the design and construction of Stage 1 and 2 of their new 11,400² warehouse and office facility located at Waterloo Business Park in Christchurch. Apollo worked closely with both parties to create a functional design to allow movement of large volumes of vehicles and goods through, around and within the facility.
A challenge of the site was the realignment of Waterloo which included the Central South Island’s copper communications network. Programming the build to allow for the building to be built and operational required continual design management to ensure deadlines were met.
The construction was designed into three stages. Stage 1 comprised of the office design and a large portion of the warehouse facility of which incorporates the latest technology for controlling inward and outward goods through a wireless operation. The office design wraps the north-western corner of the warehouse. It has a sloping parapet and vertical aluminium Euro-style wall cladding and a mix of exposed aggregate precast.
Apollo has completed stages one and two and is construction on the 6500m² stage three which includes a 300m2 cafeteria with stage 4 in design. Once completed, the overall facility will be close to 20000m².
