The full-on training at Lake Karapiro continues for us and the rest of the NZ squad.
We have had the second winter series races in May and Julia and I were very happy with our results. We did 2 PB times over the weekend of 4 races. Our last race was a stunner with a new PB time of 7:11min. With our time only 6 seconds off the u23 world record time. It is great to see where we are sitting against other crews but we always keep in the back of our minds that they are only guide lines to work off. What matters is World Champs in July!
The cold mornings are testing my southern blood but with only 5 more wks in NZ everything is starting to get very exciting! Our speed work has started this week and we are very keen to see how much more speed we can get. It is so important that we keep making steps up after each winter series so we turn our dream into a reality – being World Champions! No matter how well a row or a week goes we are always searching for more. We cannot settle for good, not even great, we want perfection.
I have had to tackle a rib injury this month. I picked up on it quickly so it hasn’t eventuated into anything big but very important to monitor these injuries as it can have such a huge impact on our racing.
2xU is Rowing New Zealand’s clothing sponsor and they have done an amazing job at kitting us out this year. We have great training and racing gear and I’m sure we will look very smart overseas!
Some of the elite squad is already in Europe flying the flag for us, and more leave shortly for the Royal Henley regatta and World Cup events. We are surrounded by excellence – athletes, coaches, facilities. We are rearing to go and prove ourselves now.
Thank you to all my supporters. It means so much to know that you are behind me while I devote myself 100% to my rowing goals.
